02.10.2009 - Flut in Manila - Engl. Bericht von SAFFY
Greetings from the SAFFY family!
Thank you very much for your thoughts, prayers and concern for our well-being during this period when many co-Filipinos have suffered, are still in evacuation centers/flooded homes, or are trying to recover from the loss of lives and properties due to tropical storm Ondoy (Ketsana) that hit us last weekend.
It is indeed sad that several of our fellow employees and workers also went through the same fate of many of our affected countrymen. Some of them had their houses submerged in breast-deep flood waters, causing much damage to their belongings, like clothings, furnitures and appliances. Though water has already receded in many areas, the families of a few staff/workers still try to manage daily life in their dwellings where there is still knee-deep murky water. Others also got stranded on and couldn’t get through flooded roads. Thank God, we have no casualties. In its meeting yesterday, our Board of Trustees has approved the grant of some financial assistance to our affected staff and workers.
Also, the ground floor of our Main Offices, Store and Warehouse were not spared by the flooding even though these areas are elevated and higher than Lamayan Street. Last Saturday, rising flood waters from the road flowed into our main offices damaging cartons of files and documents, a few furnitures, some sets of computer and electrical equipment (CPU and UPS units), some Ambiente 2010 samples, and products in our local store warehouse.
Greatly crippling our communication capability, our PABX system printed circuit board was also soaked in water and is most probably permanently damaged and would need to be replaced. Fortunately, our internet connection was restored yesterday and our telephone lines 5644169 (Main Line), 5610395 (Marketing) and 564765 (Production and Materials/Shipping) are now working.
We are very thankful that although flood waters entered into our Warehouse at the other building, finished products, most of which have been packed and ready for shipment, were not damaged as they were secured on higher places.
So far, contacts with some of our partner-producers affected by the tropical storm confirm that they are safe except for minor damages to their properties.
As you may have heard or read from reports, this tropical storm caused the worst flooding since World War II in Metro Manila’s history. It dumped more than a month’s volume of rain in just 12 hours. This caused the swelling of dams, the overflowing of rivers/creeks and the flooding in Metropolitan Manila and nearby towns and landslides in some adjacent areas.
Meanwhile, together with our producers, we will do our very best to deliver any commitments that we had promised prior to this unprecedented event.
Again, we are deeply grateful for your concern and appreciate your solidarity with us and our fellow Filipinos affected by this calamity.
Our very warm and heartfelt thanks and regards!
Frony Lapitan, Ana Dalumpines, Coni Vajio, Gen Gaan, Kaye Paulino, the other Marketing Team members and the whole SAFFY Family
